SUITS! Pant + Blazer?
Background: I'm going to be a university undergraduate student (business) this Fall and will need a suit for presenations, corporate events and also for high school prom/commencement.
I've been looking at some suits (off the rack, not looking to spend more than $300-350) at H&M, Club Monaco, Zara and Mexx. However, these places sell their suits separately as "blazers" and "pants" but are matching in fabric.
Are these "suits"? I always though the "blazer" was a casual navy jacket that was way different from a formal suit/suit jacket. However these ones look very much like suits to me (coming in matching fabric pants, black, pinstripes, charcoal, gray and etc.). Is there something different in the cuts/style? Or are blazers just another term for a suit jacket nowadays/at these stores?

It all depends on the number of buttons it has, and the occasion where it’s being worn.
Blazers nowadays are solid colored, have three buttons in two rows (double-breasted) and people wear then with non matching pants. A blazer is considered at times, informal.
How to tell the difference:
Blazers are fitted looser than a suit, and may or may not have pocket flaps, and as mentioned earlier are usually a solid color, have buttons in three rows and may or may not have elbow patches.
A suit on the other hand, is made of the best fabrics, fitted, tailored and the pants/skirt and jacket are/is made of the same fabric. Suits usually have 2 or 3 buttons, while 2 or 3 of the buttons are fastened while being worn.
Whatever you choose go for something that is a solid color, it looks more professional.
Depending on how the blazer and pants/skirt are/is matched though, a blazer might also look great. Keep in mind that blazers in business are not always accepted though.
