How much fabric do I need for a long-sleeve, size-10 blouse? The material is a 54" wide cotton.?
Much depends on the style of the blouse: long sleeves take more fabric, so do ruffles, pin-tucks, fuller cuts, etc. longer body lengths take more fabric, short cropped styles take less, the amount of ease in the design also dictates the amount of fabric. Also plaids, prints, fabrics with nap and one way designs also require more fabric. If you have a pattern then the pattern should have the required amount of fabric right on the back of the envelope. If you are making the blouse from your own design then take the primary pattern pieces with you to buy fabric and then add at least a half yard extra for facings, collars, etc.
At minimum you will need about two meters for a very plain blouse with few details, and there's no room for matching plaids, prints or napped layouts.
